Now through August 8: Free Summer Feeding/Enrichment Activities Program - The New Zion Baptist Church will be participating in the free Summer Feeding Program along with Enrichment and Educational Activities. The program is absolutely free and open to the community for ages up to 18 years old. Hours of operation are as follows: Feeding Program - Breakfast 9:00-10:00am, Lunch 12:00-2:00pm. Summer Enrichment Activities: 8:30am - 3:00pm. All activities will be held on the campus of The New Zion Baptist Church, 2535 Barbara Street Bossier City, LA 71112. Now through July 30: Summer Food Service Program - The Lake Bethlehem Baptist Church is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Breakfast will be Provided from 8:00 - 9:00am and Lunch will be Provided from 11:15 - 1:15 at Lake Bethlehem Baptist Church (2842 Martin Luther King Drive) and The Lake Life Development Center (700 Pierre Avenue).
Now through July 25: Hunter's Expo - The Shreveport Hunter's Expo sponsored by KSLA News 12 is returning to the Shreveport Convention Center. This year's event will include a special appearance by the infamous Duck Commander Phil Robertson. The duck hunting guru will be at the show on Saturday and present his seminar from the stage beginning at 1pm. There will be hundreds of booths for the outdoor enthusiasts including ATV's, duck boats, taxidermy, guide services and hunting trips, along with a wide variety of hunting, camping, and archery supplies. This family friendly event also boasts Kirk Ebarb from River City Outdoors TV Show, big bucks, monster trucks, and an amazing deer rack display. Deer hunters may take part in the Big Buck Contest. Racks of all sizes will be accepted and scored free of charge by David Moreland using the Boone & Crockett scoring system. Bayou State Bow hunter's Association is hosting an archery tournament throughout the weekend with a range of ten 3-D animal targets and real trees for a realistic setting. Gator Trax is sponsoring a dice roll contest on Friday for a $15,000 boat with 99X The Rock and Kiss Country where 100 lucky listeners will compete for a chance to win. July 24: Multicultural Center of the South Fifth Annual Taste of Culture - 6:00 pm - 9:00pm at the Sky box at Independence Stadium located at 3301 Pershing Blvd. in Shreveport, LA. Revolving around foods and recipes from many of the 26 different cultures identified as living in our area, the evening will be a culinary trip around the world. Italian, Mediterranean, Greek, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Philippine Dishes will be served. Ticket price is $35. July 24: Fish Fry and Silent Auction at Northwoods Baptist Church - 5924 North Market Street. The fish fry will be from 5 to 7 pm, adult dinners are $6.00 and Children are $4.00. Eat-in or Carry out. August 21: "Fit To Serve" Back-to-School Health Fair - 10:00am - 2:00pm at Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church. There will be basic screenings, blood pressure checks, a variety of informational booths, and fun for the whole community.
